Community

Benefiting our rural communities and the provincial economy

We are proud to be a part of the local community, and we are committed to meaningful and open engagement with our neighbours, local Mi'kmaq communities, and all our project stakeholders. We invest in projects and programs to help strengthen the communities where we live, work, and do business.

During its development, the wind farm will generate approximately $300 million in investments, and construction will create local community employment opportunities, with approximately 150 temporary full-time jobs and up to five permanent roles.

Direct tax and lease payments are $1.4 million per annum but there are substantial economic benefits of the project for the region over and above this amount in that the access to renewable, cost-controlled energy will be critical to continued viability of the PHP facility (including direct and indirect jobs).

Projects like this are better when there is community involvement and engagement.  Port Hawkesbury Paper has long benefitted from community perspective and input through its Forest Advisory Committee, which will be broadened to encompass the Goose Harbour Lake Wind Farm project.
